At the ripe old age of 24, Jordan Rubin started Garden of Life because he wanted to heal others just as he had healed himself.

In his late teens, Jordan nearly died, owing to what one doctor called, “the worst case of Crohn’s disease” he’d ever seen. Jordan’s weight plummeted from 185 to 104 and he became wheelchair bound. After conventional medicine failed, Jordan successfully rebuilt his body and spirit around a diet of the foods consumed in biblical times – raw, organically grown whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and fermented dairy, and grass fed beef and poultry, in conjunction with a daily regimen of probiotics.

Out of Jordan’s self-made recovery came an unyielding sense of responsibility to heal others and to educate people about the benefits of raw foods and digestive health.

“I often say that you can give somebody a supplement and they’ll be healthy for a couple of hours. You make somebody a meal, they'll be healthy for half a day, but if you teach somebody how to prepare food, how to purchase food and what foods to eat, and how to choose the right supplements, then you've empowered them to be healthy for a lifetime,” he said. “What makes Garden of Life unique is that we're an organization that wants to empower extraordinary health – not give somebody something, not tell somebody what to do, but give somebody information to change their life and transform the lives of others around them.”

Rubin shares his message through frequent public speaking engagements and has authored 17 books, including “The Maker’s Diet,” which spent 47 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list, and “Patient Heal Thyself,” with more than one million copies in print.

“The easiest way to describe the benefits of a raw food, or what a raw food contains, is to say, ‘maximum nutrition, ease of digestion.’ The other thing people might hear is ‘alive.’ Alive means it contains enzymes, probiotics, living elements.”

Right now, Rubin’s company is bringing its line of Raw Probiotics to Azure that are age and gender specific, as well as Raw Vitamin Supplements for specific applications, including women’s health.

“I formulate nutritional products to either meet a unique need that is not being met in the marketplace, or to greatly improve a category that doesn’t have something that truly represents the ultimate in that category. Raw Protein is a classic example of going into a category and bringing it to life. It’s the first raw, plant-based organic protein that’s not only free of common allergens—soy protein, dairy, gluten—but also contains four components that aren’t found in other protein supplements. I’m talking about native amino acids, live enzymes, live probiotics, and the always-important, raw, fat soluble vitamins A, B, E and K.”
