Salmon is an extremely nutrient-dense, high-quality protein. It’s highly prized by health conscious individuals for its wealth of essential Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and powerful antioxidants.
Sitka Seafood Market Smoked Sockeye Salmon is delicately hot-smoked using alder, a mild and sweet hardwood that is the gold-standard for smoking fish because it has a clean, neutral smoke that doesn’t overpower the intricate flavor of the salmon. The alder smoke leaves this salmon with a perfect balance of saltiness, sweetness, and smokiness. With firm flakes and a moist texture, each 4 oz. portion is carefully frozen and vacuum-sealed with skin-on and boneless.
About Sitka Seafood Market:
Marsh, founder of Sitka Seafood Market, is a second generation Alaskan fisherman. He has been eating fresh wild Alaskan seafood his entire life and knows what top-quality fish should taste like. When he discovered that most people in the United States rarely eat the same quality wild Alaskan fish he spent his life catching, he set out on a mission! He started a company focused on providing choice fish from sustainable small-boat fishermen to households all around the country. He hopes that others too will be able to enjoy the best possible culinary experience with seafood. He describes himself as “a foodie at heart, with a love for organic and sustainable ingredients and a passion for connecting people with the source of their food.” His aim is to shorten the supply chain between the fisherman and the consumer while caring for the environment. To this end, Sitka sources from small boats that use low-impact gear like hook-and-line, pot or gillnet and has the fish carefully processed by flash freezing within 5-7 days of being caught. Contrast this to the over 70% of seafood consumed in the U.S. that is imported and caught by large seafood operations whose fishing practices destroy the natural seafloor, facilitate excess by-catch, and profit multinational corporations. Marsh has created a 9-point sourcing criteria to ensure that all seafood meets his environmental and social standards. And he supports the people, communities and ecosystems that provide Sitka’s seafood through a “1% For the Wild” program that collects 1% of Sitka’s revenue and donates to fishery conservation, habitat protection, and efforts to strengthen local communities and food systems. Wow, now that’s the kind of company you can feel good purchasing from.
