Licorice root comes from a legume tree native to Asia, Africa, and Europe. It has a wonderfully sweet flavor and aroma, similar to anise or fennel. In fact, licorice provides many times the sweetness of pure sugar, so it’s often used in candies and confections, but its most popular use is for a warm, comforting tea! Licorice is used in herbal and traditional medicine to soothe the throat and calm indigestion.
