Kharbooza Kajari melons, also known as Delhi melons, are a rare and unique heirloom variety from India.  These 2-3 lb. melons change from dark green stripes to bright orange when ripe, resembling little basketballs.  Very fragrant with amazing sweet green flesh.  Highly productive, too!  Great personal-sized melons.  Open pollinated.

WHERE & WHEN TO PLANT:  For earlier fruiting or in short growing seasons, plant seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before last spring frost.  Accustom plants to outside conditions by moving seedlings to a sheltered area for a week before planting in the garden.  Can be sown outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.  We prefer to plant the seeds in rows approx. 1/4" deep, spaced 2-3 feet apart.

 

REMARKS:  Muskmelons prefer a sunny, well-drained location.  Soil should be well fertilized with compost/manure.  Melons also do well with additions of calcium sulfate to the soil.  Evenly water throughout the summer.  Mulch with black plastic, straw, or grass clippings.  Harvest melons when they turn orange and pull off the stem easily.
