Want to wow your guests at your next gathering? Try incorporating a little honeycomb onto your charcuterie board alongside fruit, meats, and aged cheeses. You can also use it as a dessert topping for ice cream, cheesecake, or tarts! Everyone will be angling for an invite to your house!
Honeycomb contains a large number of bioactive ingredients, like polyphenols and flavonoids, because it is composed of all the bee products – honey, royal jelly, pollen, and propolis. Polyphenols and flavonoids support heart, brain, and gut health by combating oxidative stress and inflammation.
Enjoy the raw honey or eat the honeycomb. That’s right, the entire honeycomb can be consumed! Some people chew it as a naturally sweetened gum and simply spit out the waxy cells, while others use the cells to provide a unique pleasurable texture to dishes like oatmeal, salads, pancakes and waffles.
*Caution* Honey contains spores of the C. botulinum bacteria that make it unsuitable for children under 12 months and pregnant women. The comb can also be a choking hazard to infants and some toddlers. It is also not advisable to eat the combs in large quantities on a daily basis – in some cases, eating large amounts of honeycomb may cause stomach obstructions.
