The Ginger plant is actually a rhizome, not a root as it’s often referred to. A rhizome is a stem that grows horizontally just under the surface of the soil. From its nodes, it grows roots. It is the plump rhizomes of the Ginger plant that produce the spice we enjoy in so many delicious ginger dishes. Ginger contains gingerol which has many health benefits.
