Genmaicha - Classic blend of sencha and roasted rice

 

Genmaicha is a tea made from Japanese tea leaves and toasted or roasted rice. Originally, rice was added as a filler to stretch the tea leaves during tough times, but the unique flavor has become widely popular. The rice goes through a five-step process to perfectly toast it, and is combined with deep-steamed tea leaves, resulting in a nutty aroma and a deep, savory, emerald green colored tea. It contains less caffeine than most other Japanese green teas.
