Azure Market Organics black chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are an heirloom variety of the chickpea with a darker color, smaller size, and slightly firmer texture. Garbanzos are believed to have been first cultivated around 5000 BC in Mesopotamia and are a staple in Indian and Mediterranean dishes. These black chickpeas are creamy white on the inside, so if you see what looks like a white seed inside your bag, don't worry—it’s just the inside of a chickpea that has just cracked open. 

Chickpeas are an excellent source of protein, calcium, iron, and B vitamins, making them a nutritious ingredient to keep in your pantry. It also makes them a great vegetarian or vegan option.
