Allspice is the unripe fruit of the Pimenta dioica, an evergreen tree in the Myrtle family native to the West Indies, Southern Mexico, and Central America. This one spice features notes of cloves, nutmeg, star anise, fennel, black pepper, and cinnamon. It’s warm, peppery, and savory! It’s versatile, too— used in Jamaican jerk seasoning, in Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine, and in North American desserts and stews.
