About Host Defense Mushrooms:

Host Defense Mushrooms, founded by world-renowned mycologist Paul Stamets, began more than 10 years ago as a direct-to-store manufacturer of mushroom supplements. By 2025, Host Defense, specializing in mycelium-based mushroom supplements, became the industry’s key player and the #1 best-selling mushroom supplement brand in the U.S. Paul is known as an industry leader in fungi production, habitat, and medicinal use. Holding to his core principle that mushrooms are vital to a healthy immune response in both people and habitats, Paul’s goal in founding Host Defense was to build a bridge between people and fungi. Host Defense is on a mission to “explore, study, preserve, and spread knowledge about the use of fungi for helping bees, trees, people, and planet.” In fact, Paul, in partnership with the Department of Entomology at Washington State University, is working to use mushroom mycelium-based extracts to help combat Colony Collapse Disorder in bee populations.
