The first recipe for a tomato based ketchup was published in Philadelphia in 1812, but never caught on because it was a thin, watery concoction made of tomato pulp, spices, and brandy. The modern version of ketchup was first made in 1876, but today is riddled with high-fructose corn syrup and natural flavoring.
