These melons got their name back in 1869 when General John Bidwell grew them in California from seed stock he received from the USDA. These casaba melons have a yellowish-green striped skin with orange sweet, creamy flesh. Many compare it to orange sherbet. The football-shaped melons are massive and can weigh up 16 lbs. or more and get lots of "oohs and aahs" over the size and taste! Open pollinated.
